About Electrifying Trains
Tony Teague and Mike Radford (of MARC Models) formed Electrifying Trains in order to respond to the growing demand for high quality Ready-to-Run O gauge models, but with a particular focus on the Electric Multiple Units of the Southern Railway and British Rail (Southern).
The initial release was an accurate and highly detailed model of the SR 2-HAL two coach design of which the Southern Railway built 92 examples between 1938 and 1940; the units worked all over the Southern systems until final withdrawal under British Rail in the early 1970’s.
The 2-HAL was followed by an equally impressive model of the SR 2-BIL units of which 152 were built between 1935 and 1938; this release also enabled us to deliver models of the various BIL / HAL combinations that were formed following war & collision damage to certain units.
New in 2010 were models of the only SR articulated 2 car sets and of the pull-push sets formed from former SE&CR railmotors; these represent the first non-electrified trains from Electrifying Trains! These interesting units were seen at various locations across the SR and BR(s) system and will form a very useful train for those modelling the SR / BR(s) steam era but with limited space.
During 2011 we diverted slightly to launch the Ruston 48DS diesel shunter in both RTR and kit form, whilst our development effort focussed upon our 1st 4 car RTR unit, the SR / BR(S) 4-COR, released in 2012; the model covers all sub-types for these units.
For 2013 we returned to EMU's but travelled further afield to create an all new model of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's Manchester - Bury EMU's; we have had considerable support in this development from the L&Y Railway Society. Southern diehards need not have worried, however, because in 2014 we returned to our 'home territory' with the launch of new SR pull-push 2 car Gate Stock sets.
Early in 2015 we launched our second 4-car RTR Southern Railway EMU in the 4-LAV set, now in production; in addition, have decided to make available the first of a large range of bespoke etches and castings in O Gauge. These have been developed in the course of our work over recent years; the range will continue to be expanded over time and should prove to be a great resource for kit and scratch builders.
Production runs of each Electrifying Trains release is strictly limited and each hand-built model is supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
